International studies have linked eye-sight issues with reduced productivity and increased errors and sick leave in the workplace.
The most common condition that causes eye-sight problems is refractive error (focussing error). Throughout South East Asia and the Pacific over 100 million workers are estimated to have uncorrected or inapproriately corrected refractive error which impacts on work performance.
It is estimated that having your eyes examined and wearing the appropriate vision correction can reduce errors and increase productivity by up to 25% for workers whose work tasks required moderate visual processing. This increase in productivity even occurred when employees who were unaware they had vision problems were given the appropriate vision correction.
An example
If you employ someone at $120 per day to process orders and they process 100 orders per day that is a cost to you of $1.20 per order.
If wearing the appropriate vision correction improved that worker's productivity by a conservative 5%, that worker could now process 105 orders per day. This is a saving of $6 per day (5 additional orders per day)
